WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – U.S. Treasury Department is set to auction a total of $119 billion in notes and bonds next week through three consecutive sales. The schedule begins on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with $58 billion of three-year notes. This will be followed by a $39 billion auction of 10-year notes on Wednesday and a $22 billion sale of 30-year bonds on Thursday. These offerings are part of the federal government’s routine borrowing plan, with sizes aligned to the amounts outlined in Treasury’s latest quarterly refunding schedule for October.

The three-year security is a newly issued note with a maturity date of Oct. 15, 2029. The 10-year sale will reopen a 4.625% note maturing on Aug. 15, 2036, while the 30-year auction will reopen a 5.125% bond due on Aug. 15, 2056. Reopenings increase the supply of existing securities that are already actively traded, maintaining their original coupon and maturity while establishing a new issue date for additional units.
All three securities are scheduled to settle on Oct. 15, according to the U.S. Treasury Department’s auction calendar. The Treasury conducts these sales on a yield basis and releases results after each auction concludes. Bidders can submit competitive bids specifying the yield they will accept, while noncompetitive bidders agree to accept the yield determined at auction. These notes and bonds pay fixed interest at regular intervals and constitute a significant portion of the government’s marketable debt.
Three-day auction schedule established by Treasury
The October reopenings of the 10-year and 30-year securities follow their sales in September. On Sept. 9, Treasury sold $39 billion of the 10-year note at a high yield of 4.834%. Investors bid roughly $105.8 billion, resulting in a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.71. This note features a 4.625% coupon and matures in August 2036. The upcoming auction will add another $39 billion of the same security to the market.
Similarly, on Sept. 10, Treasury sold $22 billion of the 30-year bond with a high yield of 5.308%. The auction drew about $57.5 billion in bids, producing a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.61. This bond has a 5.125% coupon and matures in August 2056. The October offering will reopen this security with an additional $22 billion. Treasury will announce the accepted yield, price, and bidding details following Thursday’s auction.
October borrowing aligns with overall fiscal strategy
These October auctions take place during a quarter when Treasury projected substantial marketable borrowing. In August, the department estimated $628 billion of net marketable borrowing from October through December, based on an $850 billion end-of-year cash balance. The government finances its operations through regular sales of bills, notes, bonds, and other securities. Auction sizes vary depending on maturity and are published according to the Treasury’s financing schedule.
The $119 billion total maintains the same auction sizes as outlined in Treasury’s August plan: $58 billion for three-year notes, $39 billion for 10-year notes, and $22 billion for 30-year bonds. Official results, including high yields, accepted bids, allocations, and prices, will be released after each sale, providing transparency on the upcoming week’s funding activities.
