CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Google has introduced Gemini 4 Argon, its latest leading AI model designed to handle sophisticated professional tasks worldwide. Announced on Sept. 30, this model forms the core of the Gemini 4 series, targeting sectors such as software development, finance, legal analysis, and cybersecurity. Google highlighted that Argon is capable of more profound reasoning across extended, multi-step processes. Currently, access is being limited to a select group of cybersecurity experts through its Fairwind Program.

The new model increases the token output ceiling to 1 million, a significant jump from the previous 64,000. This upgrade enables Argon to process longer, more complex workflows in a single session. Initial API pricing is set at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input tokens discounted by 95%. After the launch phase, costs will increase to $4 and $20 per million tokens, respectively.
Google reports that thousands of its employees already utilize Argon across various domains including coding, research, and content creation. Internal projects have also employed the AI for optimizing data center memory and migrating large codebases. One initiative involved deploying Argon agents for C and C++ to Rust migrations, while another used agents for memory profiling across Google’s data centers. These efforts resulted in freeing over 300 tebibytes of memory, with additional savings identified through ongoing work.
Enhanced ability to support complex professional tasks
On DeepSWE v1.1, a benchmark for long-duration software engineering, Gemini 4 Argon achieved a score of 77.9%. Google also showcased its performance in finance, legal work, and automation testing. The model’s multimodal reasoning capabilities complement its coding and enterprise applications. Developed by Google DeepMind within the larger Gemini family, Argon’s increased output capacity allows it to handle extended workflows involving multiple reasoning and execution steps more effectively.
Part of its initial deployment focuses on cybersecurity. Argon can identify, verify, and fix software vulnerabilities in controlled defense scenarios. Wiz is utilizing Argon through its Scan for Good initiative, which aims to detect security issues in public infrastructure. Google reported a 68% score on CWE-bench v1, a vulnerability remediation benchmark. Access is currently granted to select cybersecurity defenders without the usual guardrails for approved security tasks.
Gradual rollout ahead of broader Gemini 4 availability
Google has not set a specific launch date for the general public to access Gemini 4 Argon. The company is implementing a phased deployment while gathering early user feedback. It is also participating in a voluntary pre-release process with the U.S. government. Future releases will include developers, businesses, and consumers. The initial rollout prioritizes paid API users and Google AI Ultra subscribers, though no fixed launch date has been announced for these groups.
Additionally, Google clarified that it does not plan to release Gemini 3.5 Pro, which was scheduled for June. As a result, Gemini 4 Argon remains the company’s latest flagship model for demanding reasoning and professional tasks. Google continues to offer other Gemini versions tailored for various performance and budget needs. Argon distinguishes itself with its larger output capacity, advanced coding abilities, and dedicated cybersecurity features. Its current testing phase is limited to trusted testers and chosen security partners.
